HONG KONG, March. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- Hong Kong film star Jackie Chan made donations during a campaign here Saturday to assist relief operations in quake-hit Xinjiang province.

Speaking during the event, Jackie Chan said all Hong Kong residents willing to help those in need of help in Xinjiang are welcomed to donate money or goods, adding the the Salvation Army will do their best to send all the donations to Xinjiang as soon as possible.

The campaign, organized by the Salvation Army Hong Kong, attracted people from all walks of life in the city. Some donated in cash and some brought clothes and quilts to be delivered to thequake-striken area.

According to the Red Cross Society of China, a total of 266 people have been killed in the earthquake that hit northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regions a week ago. Over 2,000 peoplewere injured and 8,861 houses were toppled.

A number of campaigns were held in Hong Hong over the past several days to make donations to the victims of the quake.
